Who We Serve
Family Reading Partners: Adolescent Parents-
Sessions take place with teenage parents in the high school during lunch hour once per month throughout the school year. Dates are coordinated with Orange County Department of Social Services social workers.
Family Reading Partners: Babies-
Books are delivered to parents and young children during home visits. A child receives five or more new books every six months until he/she starts kindergarten. Visits are coordinated with Family Success Alliance navigators.
Family Reading Partners: Elementary Schools-
We work with teachers of students, generally in grades K-12, to identify students/families who would benefit most from the program. Evening programs start with a meal. Sessions can also be held at schools during the school day.
Family Reading Partners: Horizons-
UNC Horizons provides residential programming for up to 25 pregnant women or mothers and their children at a time. We meet with the mothers and children once a month in the Chapel Hill Public Library.
Family Reading Partners: Neighborhoods-
Sessions are held in the daytime or evenings, usually in a clubhouse or community center setting. Ideally, a series of sessions with the same families is held so that impact is greatest.
Family Reading Partners: PreK/Headstart-
Believing that the earlier family reading begins the better, FRP has expanded into the CHCCS PreK/Headstart program. All families with children in PreK/Headstart are invited to a Family Night where specially selected books are modeled in four different languages.
Family Reading Partners: Work First-
We offer one session every quarter to the young mothers enrolled in the Work First program who are trying to get back into the workforce. Dates are coordinated with Orange County Department of Social Services personnel.
